Q. How do I know if Medicare Part B will help pay for my diabetes testing supplies?
A.
If you have diabetes, Medicare Part B coverage, and your doctor has prescribed a blood sugar meter, you may qualify for Medicare reimbursement of the meter and related supplies.

Q. What information do I need from my doctor to obtain Medicare reimbursement of my diabetes testing supply costs?
A.
In order to qualify for reimbursement, you must be treated by a doctor for diabetes. Also, your doctor must prescribe a blood sugar meter and complete a physician’s written order.  After you place your supply order, we will contact your physician to receive the physician's written order.

Q. How do you get my prescription? 
A. 
We will contact your physician who will fax us a physician's written order.  It is similar to a prescription, but with more details.

Q. What diabetes testing supplies may be covered?
A.
If your claim is approved, Medicare will help pay for supplies, such as:
  • Blood sugar meters
  • Test strips
  • Control solution
  • Meter batteries
  • Lancets
  • Lancing devices
  • Insulin pumps (and insulin if delivered by an insulin pump)

Medicare Part B only pays for supplies that are provided by a Medicare supplier.  The Medicare supplier through whom you purchase your diabetes testing supplies must submit the claim to Medicare for you. The AARP Pharmacy Services program is a Medicare supplier.

Q. What will I pay for my diabetes testing supplies?
A.
If you have Medicare Part B coverage, you pay:
  • 20% of the approved amount after the yearly deductible
  • If you have secondary supplemental insurance, you may have no
    out-of-pocket costs*

A.
The Medicare guidelines for reordering diabetes testing supplies are:
  • Test strips: every 3 months
  • Control solutions: every 3 months
  • Lancets: every 3 months
  • Lancing device: every 6 months
  • Meter batteries: every 6 months
  • Blood sugar meter: every 5 years

Q. Is diabetes self-management training covered by Medicare Part B?
A.
Yes.  Diabetes outpatient self-management training is covered if you are newly diagnosed with diabetes, newly eligible for Medicare, or at significant risk for complications from diabetes, and your doctor gives you a referral for the service.  Through this training you will learn about self-monitoring of blood glucose, diet, exercise and  medications available for managing your diabetes.  You will be responsible for co-pays and deductibles.  You should ask your health care team about an education program that is best for you.  
 
Medicare and Impotence Treatment

Q. How do I know if Medicare Part B will help pay for my impotence treatment costs?
A.
If you are being treated by a doctor for organic impotence (medically induced), have Medicare Part B coverage, and have a prescription for a vacuum device for impotence treatment, you may qualify for Medicare reimbursement of your vacuum device costs.

Q. What information do I need from my doctor to obtain Medicare reimbursement for my vacuum device?
A. 
In order to qualify for reimbursement, you must be treated by a doctor for organic (medically induced) impotence.  Also, your doctor must prescribe a vacuum device and complete a physician's written order.
