Music Stars join talents

year
in Nashville for the
Annual Mark Collie Celebrity Race for
Diabetes Cure. This
year's
event
takes
place
October
26
&
27,
1999.
Hosted by Country Music Stars, Mark Collie and Loretta Lynn, who
serves
as celebrity spokesperson,
last
years benefit took place in Nashville on October 6th
and 7th. For years, Mark Collie, a Type I, Insulin dependant diabetic has
brought top country music artists and NASCAR drivers together to raise money for diabetes
research.
In
last
year's
event,
NASCAR Drivers
Bobby Hamilton, Sterling Marlin got together with NASCAR legends Coo Coo Marlin, Tiger Tom
Pistone and Dick Brooks, and challenged country music stars Brooks and Dunn, Faith Hill,
Pam Tillis and Matthew and Gunnar Nelson in a series of legend car heat races. Together
more than forty fan favorites participated in the races, including Kippi Brannon, Faith
Hill, Tim McGraw and Olympic Gold medallist, Bart Conner.
Festivities started with a celebrity auction and show at the
Wild Horse Saloon. Billy Standridges Winston Cup Show Car sponsored by Diabetes Home
Care was on display at the entrance. Inside, guests were entertained by race participants
including The Oak Ridge Boys, Loretta Lynn, Anita Cochran, The Nelsons, T. Graham Brown,
and John Anderson. Legend car races took place at the
Nashville Speedway the next evening featuring all the stars. To find out who was this

Through the success of these events, the Mark Collie Foundation has raised
over
two
million dollars, providing grants to various diabetic research organizations with the
principal recipient being Vanderbilt University Research Center.

The stars participating in the Mark Collie
Celebrity Race for Diabetes Cure appeared at the Wildhorse Saloon the night
before the big race to to perform and host a celebrity auction featuring special one-of-a
kind racing and country music items. All proceeds go to Diabetes Reseach. The Race
The Celebrity Race will run Legends cars:
5/8-scale, 125hp replicas modeled after the great modifieds driven by the sport's earliest
stars during the formative years of
NASCAR.
Celebrities will compete in four qualifying 8-lap heats and a 15-lap feature
on the speedway's 3/8 mile oval. Nascar Legends will compete in a 15-lap shootout dubbed
"Legends Racing Legends"
